Disruption is over for those travelling on a key Huddersfield route as major £750k improvements are complete.

Extensive works to improve the Queensgate and Shorehead stretch of Huddersfield Ring Road began in June and are now finished. This included resurfacing the carriageway and roundabout, new kerbing, and an improved central reservation.

On top of this, upgraded traffic signals have been installed, along with tactile paving at a pedestrian crossing to alert visually impaired people of a safe crossing point.

Councillor Munir Ahmed, Cabinet member for Environment and Highways said: “We understand that the closures of the major carriageway have caused some disruption, and we thank residents and businesses for their patience while our engineers completed the works.

“Commuters will undoubtedly benefit from the improvements, in terms of journey times, accessibility, and safety.

“It is without a doubt that collaborative working with contractors and utilities, diligent planning, dedication, and hard work has led to the successful and smooth delivery of the Queensgate improvement scheme. Well done and thank you to everyone involved.”

Another highway project nearing completion is the A616, Chainbar roundabout over in Cleckheaton. These works are on course to be completed as expected at the end of September.

The carriageway has an additional lane to alleviate some of the pressures on the junction off the motorway, reduce congestion, and improve journey times. The council has installed LED street lighting, new kerbing, a pedestrian island with a signalled crossing as well as cycle lanes to improve safety.
