York 'race-related hate crime' sparks police investigation

Police are looking to speak with a man in connected with a hate crime which took place in York city centre.

North Yorkshire Police say this race-related hate crime took place at around 6.30pm on Wednesday, September 18. After the crime, the man left when he was told the police had been called.

He was then last seen going towards the War Memorial at 7.10pm and an investigation is now underway to find the man. The police said: “We’ve released an image of a man we need to talk to in connection with a race-related hate crime investigation in York city centre.

“The incident happened at around 6.30pm on Wednesday (September 18, 2024). The man made off when he was told the police had been called. He was last seen heading towards the War Memorial at 7.10pm. Enquiries are ongoing to locate the man.”
